RARE 1920's WHITING & DAVIS ENAMELED MESH PURSE STYLE DESIGN BY PAUL POIRET
Late 1920's Whiting & Davis mesh purse designed by French couturier Paul Poiret. Poiret was well known for his designs and lifestyle concepts in clothing, and interior design, from 1900 through the 1920s. Paul Poiret inspired designs were offered by Whiting and Davis in 1929, and advertised as: The Newest Parisian Decree. This purse was made with extra fine mesh, also called Baby Mesh and measures approximately 4 ½ long by 5 at widest. The colorful Art Deco design is done in yellow, pink , and green with gold and silver accents. Silver-tone frame has green enameled segments, and a decorative link carry chain. The inside of the frame is stamped with the Whiting & Davis logo and is complete with original pink silk lining. Purse is in good condition with no loose or missing mesh and the lining is clean. There are some mesh tiles that show edge wear to the enamel, and there are darkened areas showing tarnish to the silver finish frame.
The tarnish could be polished away if desired. Please see photos to help verify the description and condition of this rare and historical purse.
